Money is the motive It was summer of 2013, I had the opportunity working at Sweet Frog a yogurt store on the oceanfront. It was my first job and a great experience. There were days when I hated coming to work and all I wanted to do was call out but I never did.
Working on the oceanfront is not exciting at all. I worked the night shrift every night which started at 5pm and ended after midnight. The strip is a very dangerous after eleven o’clock. People are getting ready to go to the clubs or just finish drinking from the bar, and some of them would come into Sweet Frog drunk and acting crazy, which would scare me sometimes. Most of my co-workers were lazy, there’s only two shifts either you work morning or evening and when I would come to work for the evening shift the shop was always a complete mess, the topping bar empty, no cups out, and the yogurt is spilt everywhere just a mess. That left me to clean everything up which should have already been corrected before I came into work. I can say the times I did work the morning shifts I never left a mess for anyone to clean, the topping bar was filled and I left no dishes for them to clean. I made sure they had no worries when they will come into work. Another terrible experience while working at Sweet Frog was the flies that were constantly in the store. On estimate I believe I killed more than 200 flies a day, for every one fly that was killed twenty more would take its' place. What made it worst about having flies in the shop, people constantly complain about them. Sometimes I just wanted to say “you act like you never seen flies before”, we are located at the beach and we are selling sweet yogurt so there will be flies. I also experience how picky certain costumers can be. They are asking for fresh fruit when the fruit that is already out is fresh. They wanted me to cut more for them so basically I'm wasting fruit that was already out. Costumers would complain about the prices telling me why is the yogurt so expensive by the ounce. They will try to compare their Sweet Frog to the one I work at. I had to constantly explain everyday saying Sweet Frog is a franchise so all prices will vary depending on where it's located. I had costumers complain on why we don’t have certain yogurt flavor. We are only allowed to have 8 machines so there will only be 16 flavors. The flavors we did have were popular and more common to be eaten. In the end there are so many reasons for me to complain about working. A reason why I never quit was only because my checks were a lot of money. In the summer I would make almost 400 dollars every pay period. This made me believe that the money is the motive. |
